Portland Nitro Bring On New Ownership in 2024

April 2, 2024

The league is proud to announce that Darci Fredricks and Bill Freeman have become the new owners of the Portland Nitro organization in the Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA). The Nitro began play in 2022 within the league’s west division, and play their home games at Kiggins Bowl in Vancouver, Wash.

“We have been big fans of the Nitro since their first season,” said Fredricks. "And of ultimate frisbee for the last 28 years. Our decision to purchase the team was sealed when we attended practice recently. Nitro players compete with intensity, skill, and most importantly to us, the spirit of ultimate that reflects the Portland community. We truly look forward to growing professional ultimate here for many years to come.”

Fredricks and Freeman met playing ultimate frisbee at the University of Minnesota in 1997, falling in love with a sport that embodied athleticism, integrity and personal connections. Freeman held multiple operations roles with the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, MN home of the National Hockey League’s Minnesota Wild, and he is currently a financial advisor in Portland. Freeman has been active in ultimate frisbee as a player and high school coach since 1996, and is the Northwest Masters regional coordinator. He is also a member of the Portland men’s Grand Masters club team Burnside, and the head coach of the West Linn Lions High School team. Fredricks has been the owner and operator of the local California Closets franchise since 2014. After leading her college team to two consecutive national appearances, Fredricks played competitive club ultimate frisbee before retiring from competitive play.

“We are so proud to welcome Darci and Bill to the UFA family,” said league CEO Steve Hall. “Their success on and off the ultimate field make them a perfect fit. Plus, their connection to the ultimate community in Portland will help the Nitro reach more fans throughout the region.”

The Portland Nitro play their first game of the 2024 season at home versus the division rival San Diego Growlers on Sunday, April 28, at 4:00 PM local time. For the team’s full schedule and to purchase tickets, visit watchufa.com/nitro.
